Paul Knight’s practice is characterised by the potentiality of intimacy. Domestic scenes are captured through a diaristic gaze that offers glimpses of a private relationship and a shared life. Through photography, Knight documents and reflects upon moments that are at once removed and strikingly candid.

This photographic print is a limited edition of twenty-five and belongs to the intimate, ongoing series, Chamber Music, 2009–, which records the life Knight has shared with his partner Peter since they met fourteen years ago. While the bedroom depicted in Savanna is empty, the indented pillows and entwined sheets embody the traces of its recent occupants and their lives together. Other works from the Chamber Music series will be included in Paul’s forthcoming exhibition at MUMA.

Paul Knight was born in 1976 in New South Wales and now lives and works in Berlin. Knight graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Photography from the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne, in 2001, and completed a Master of Fine Art at the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland, in 2009. Knight’s recent solo exhibitions include Paul Knight, Lauwer, Rotterdam, 2018; Fictions, Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, 2014; This Eternal Civil War, Seasons Projects, London, 2013; and The Genetic Drive as part of the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art, 2012.

Paul Knight is represented by Neon Parc, Melbourne.
