Monash Organic Spectroscopy Symposium

The Monash Organic Spectroscopy Symposium (MOSS), a spectroscopic-based incursion, covers the core principles of the spectroscopic analysis of organic molecules and helps students develop skills in applying advanced tools and techniques required for analysing and interpreting data. This symposium has been designed to align with the spectroscopic chemistry section of Unit 4 VCE Chemistry. Please note that we do require students to be familiar with the theory aspects of spectroscopic chemistry prior to attending MOSS 2025 as this greatly improves comprehension of the content covered on the day. Attendees will have hands-on use of both NMR and IR instruments to collect spectra, and analyse their collected spectra, along with Mass Spectroscopic and Elemental Analysis data, to determine the identity of unknown organic molecules.

Please note that we cannot accept registration of individual students. Participants must be booked by their school as part of a group, and accompanied by a teacher from that school.

Cost
$39 per student - early bird booked prior to Friday 28th February 2025.

$44 per student -  standard booked after Friday 28th February 2025.

* Due to space limitations, we can only allow a maximum of 36 students per session
