Helen Johnson’s practice is characterised by her use of historical imagery, subversion of colonial narratives and blending of figurative images with abstraction. In her more recent works, Johnson uses painting to explore the experience of women and motherhood.

This limited edition depicts two profiles of faces who are drawn together by a connecting organic eye-like stream. The artworks are printed from two plates: first a spit bite, sugarlift aquatint was printed in ultramarine from a copper plate, followed by a monotype painted by Johnson in watercolour onto an acrylic plate. Johnson's painterly monotypes make each work unique with the figures of the etching layer becoming more or less visible depending on the individual hand-painted layer.
