After Andy: SoHo in the Eighties
After Andy: SoHo in the Eighties
Australian writer, editor and curator Paul Taylor founded the journal Art & Text in 1981, and in 1982 went on to curate the landmark exhibition POPISM at the National Gallery of Victoria. This collection of writings and interviews, including the last interview with Andy Warhol, are taken from the period of Taylor’s residence in New York where his incisive voice and sharp insight became a regular feature of The New York Times and Vanity Fair. Featuring full-page portraits by photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sander throughout, this book is divided into six parts: ‘Exit Andy’, ‘The Superstars’, ‘Business Art’, ‘Acting Up’, ‘Post-Pop’ and ‘Show Business’, with each including writings by Taylor that expertly arrest and expose 1980s SoHo. After Andy: SoHo in the Eighties exemplifies Taylor’s singularity and his influential role in both Australian and international art and culture.
