This comprehensive online course is essential for anyone interested in learning the most up to date information on transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and its use in the treatment of depression. Developed by leading experts in the use of TMS, the course consists of a series of video lectures from Professor Paul Fitzgerald and his team of internationally recognised brain stimulation clinician researchers, along with relevant and cutting-edge resource and practical demonstrations. Topic areas covered include:

  • TMS in Depression – Why we do what we do
  • Issues in TMS Delivery
  • Other Issues in TMS for Depression
  • Beyond TMS for Depression
  • Safety & Management of Side Effects
  • Equipment and Regulation
  • Practical Skills Demonstration
    • Resting Motor Threshold (RMT) Determination
    • Treatment Provision

A Certificate of Completion will be provided upon successful completion of a multiple-choice exam, and a video demonstration of either an RMT (Medical Practitioners) or simulated TMS treatment session (Nurses + Allied Health Clinicians). Guidance on creation of the video and elements to cover will be provided. The demonstrated skills will be assessed by expert TMS clinicians.

Please note this course requires you to access TMS equipment to enable completion of the practical assessment component.

Please contact tms-course@monash.edu if you do not have access to TMS equipment and wish to request onsite practical skill assessment. ECIMH will be offering a limited number of onsite practical assessment sessions at Camberwell, Victoria, with dates dependent on demand and availability.
