Re-entry to Practice (Paramedicine)
If you have been graduated more than 2 years and not practiced, your registration has lapsed, or you are still registered but have had a break from the workforce, or you are shifting from one area of practice to another we are pleased to provide you with the following information about getting prepared to re-enter Paramedicine and paramedic practice.
Overview
To prepare for practice this 8-week course enables you to build your knowledge, skills, experience and will assist you to meet the requirements of registration as a paramedic in Australia. This course will include a combination of online learning and on-campus learning including practical skills, simulations, and assessments.
Prerequisites
All applicants must hold a Bachelor of Paramedicine or Bachelor of Nursing/Paramedicine or equivalent.
Modules
Week 1: Foundations of Paramedicine
Week 2: Cardiology
Week 3: Respiratory
Week 4: Trauma
Week 5: Medical
Week 6: Paediatrics and Obstetrics
Week 7: Transition to Practice
Week 8: SWOTVAC and Final Assessments (theory and practicals)
Assessments
Formative and summative MCQ, and short answer assessments. Clinical competency of psychomotor skills, tasks and safe competent practice of clinical simulations. Theoretical assessment will be undertaken online, while all practical skills and clinical scenarios will be undertaken face-to-face.
Practicals
Online theoretical classes will be held Monday-Thursday, while practical classes will be delivered each Friday of the course from 9-5 pm. However, some flexibility exists depending on personal circumstances and recency of practice whether applicants attend these Friday sessions. However, week 8 (SWOTVAC and Final Assessments) is compulsory to attend in person.
Workload expectations
Students will be expected to complete at least 6 hours of online learning per week.
Certification
Successful applicants will be provided with Monash University certification of all components completed in the course, including skills, procedures, guidelines and simulations completed. Completing the Re-entry to Practice (Paramedicine) course may help prepare you to meet the requirements for registration and practice as a paramedic in Australia. Please note it may take some time for the Paramedicine Board to consider your application for registration.
