Post Mortem CT Interpretation with Dr Chris O’Donnell. 

This intensive short course is designed for forensic pathologists (incl. trainees) and radiologists (incl. trainees) with an interest in forensic imaging, as well as radiographers and general pathologists. 

 

At the end of this intensive 3-day short course participants will have: 

  • A basic understanding of the physics and principles of CT scanning;
  • Confidence in viewing postmortem CT images;
  • An understanding of the artefacts associated with CT scanning;
  • Knowledge of postmortem CT (PMCT) correlates of the pathological artefacts of death;
  • The ability to recognize forensically significant PMCT findings in all anatomical areas;
  • The ability to integrate PMCT findings into the work practices of a forensic pathologist or radiologist
  • Understand the benefits and limitations of PMCT in medicolegal death investigation
  • Awareness of newer postmortem CT techniques such as PMCT angiography and guided biopsy, and PMMRI;
  • Insight into construction of a medico-legal radiology report; and
  • An understanding of the requirements of an expert witness in giving evidence based on PMCT
