Pharmacotherapy and Wound Care

With an ageing population, there is an increase in both the incidence of chronic and complex wounds as well as an increase in the numbers of medications people take. The impact of medications on wound healing becomes more profound with the intersection of polypharmacy and complex wounds. 

In this micro-credential you will have the opportunity to grow your skills in pharmacotherapy in context of chronic wound management to understand potential risks and benefits and identify and develop strategies to improve outcomes for complex wound care patients. This knowledge will enable you to successfully identify patients at risk of impacts on healing and address these risks. Learning opportunities will build your skills in risk assessment related to a medicines review and provide advice/guidance on prescribing and deprescribing actions for patient benefit. Structured guided course materials will step you through the process from a refresher on wound healing and relevant pharmacology and pharmacotherapy, to how medicines may affect wound healing, then critical evaluation of risk vs benefit in decision making and finally how to assess risk and benefit with new medicines as they become available. 

A curated mix of online seminars and resources will be integrated with moderated asynchronous and synchronous discussions to explore and consolidate knowledge, with case-based approaches to give authentic context to the information.
