MOST Core: Simulation-based Laparoscopy (Online Course)
The Monash Online Surgical Training (MOST) Core is a 6 week online short course that is targeted at junior doctors who would like to increase their proficiency in core surgical knowledge and skills. These would be pre-SET surgical juniors who are not currently enrolled in a training programme. All specialities including general, paediatric, gynaecology or other laparoscopic driven surgical specialities.
The course covers fundamentals of surgery, stabilisation of the surgical patient, pre-existing patient conditions in surgery, communication challenges in surgery with home-based practical laparoscopic activities running throughout the whole course. This home-based programme involves novel motion tracking software for the instruments giving objective feedback on progress and a dedicated online curriculum will be completed. This online curriculum has been validated for this use in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Each participant will receive a laparoscopic trainer to facilitate these activities. At the end of the course the participants will be able to keep the laparoscopic trainer to further develop their skills.
All of the learning objectives have been based on the Eligibility Report for the Procedural Skills and Professional Capabilities for Application to the General Surgery SET Training Program, therefore is very relevant for the target participants.
