Monash University Critical Care Ultrasound: Ultrasound Physics for Critical Care Imaging
The Monash University Critical Care Ultrasound (MUCCU) short courses, with its unique combination of flexible online delivery and practical hands on support sessions at clinical sites, enables you to acquire this critical competency at your own pace.
This micro-credential Ultrasound Physics for Critical Care Imaging is the pre- requisite/co-requisite for our suite of MUCCU short courses. In order to complete any of the MUCCU short course(s), you will need to successfully pass this physics module.
This module provides an overview of ultrasound physics and equipment instrumentation. You will acquire knowledge about ultrasound beam formation and its interactions with various body tissues when applied to clinical image acquisition. You will be able to describe how an image is generated, how to correctly identify and differentiate pathologies from imaging artefacts. You will also acquire an in-depth knowledge of the limitations of ultrasound, and the ability to optimise equipment settings in order to examine patients both safely and with high acuity.
Upon successful completion of this physics module, you will be able to apply your ultrasound physics knowledge to basic ultrasound scanning. You will also receive a Certificate of Completion from Monash University.
All clinicians are eligible to apply. However, as this module forms the pre-requisite/co-requisite for the MUCCU short courses, we strongly advise you to seek the advice of your lead supervising clinician to determine your eligibility for the ultrasound imaging modules.
HOW YOU'LL LEARN
This innovative learning initiative is an education partnership between Eastern Health, Monash Health and Monash University. You will be guided by leading expert clinicians and highly experienced sonographers, supported by educational experts from Monash University.
