MIPS Research Platforms Symposium
About the symposium
Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) Research Platforms is delighted to host Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Professor Natalie Trevaskis to present on her research “Advancing lymphatic drug delivery using MIPS Research Platforms”
The seminar will be followed by flash talks from each of the MIPS Research Platforms and afternoon tea.
About Professor Natalie Trevaskis
Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Professor Natalie Trevaskis heads the lymphatic medicine laboratory at MIPS. She is also a lecturer within the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University. Prof Trevaskis completed her PhD in drug delivery in 2006, and subsequently worked on industry (Pfizer, Novartis) and government (NHMRC) funded projects before establishing her own lab in 2014. She has published ~100 papers, mostly on lymphatic drug delivery, including in top journals such as Nature, Nature Metabolism and Nature Nanotechnology. She is also the inventor on over 10 patent families for lymph-directing formulations and prodrugs that were initially licensed to Puretech Health and now spun out into a new company Seaport Therapeutics. Prof Trevaskis continues to be fascinated by the roles and functions of the lymphatic system, and is excited by the potential to develop completely new treatments for acute, immune and metabolic diseases by targeting the lymphatics.
About MIPS
Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) is a dynamic, innovative and highly collaborative centre of pharmaceutical science research and development. Committed to research translation, we have made major contributions to collaborative drug discovery programs that have progressed more than 40 novel drug candidates into clinical development.
MIPS hosts several specialised Research Platforms that support academic and industry partners in drug discovery and development efforts across all stages—from target identification to candidate selection and delivery:
Drug Target Identification Platform: Utilises metabolomics, lipidomics, and proteomics to uncover the target(s) of drug candidates, understand mechanisms of action, and discover pharmacodynamic biomarkers.
Monash Fragment Platform (MFP): A biophysical screening and characterisation facility conducting small molecule hit identification, drug discovery and basic research.
Australian Translational Medicinal Chemistry Facility (ATMCF): Offers expert medicinal chemistry support for translating small molecules into therapeutic candidates.
Centre for Drug Candidate Optimisation (CDCO): Provides expertise in physicochemical evaluation, drug metabolism, and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) to enhance compound design and progression.
Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MMIC): An industry-focused facility supporting advanced preclinical formulation development, analytical chemistry, CMC, and consultancy.
mRNA Core: Supports Australian research groups in advancing next-generation mRNA therapeutics.
