Laparoscopic Skills and Training Workshop

Participants

This course is designed for Obstetric & Gynaecology senior trainees and consultants aiming to operate at an RANZCOG/AGES skill level 3 & 4.

Program outline

Clinical knowledge and reasoning (Lectures – half day)

  • The anatomy of the abdomen, female genital tract, bladder, ureters and lower bowel, in particular the pelvic side wall.
  • Potential risks and complications of laparoscopic surgery (including anaesthesia).
  • Equipment, instrumentation and theatre set-up in particular the principles of electrosurgery, insufflators, light sources and video equipment.
  • Safe entry techniques and port site problems.

Clinical Skills (Hands-on live animal workshop – half day)

  • Laparoscopic techniques.
  • Suturing (intracorporeal and extracorporeal knot tying).
  • Specimen retrieval (trans abdominal removal of tissue).
  • Laparoscopic hysterectomy.

  • Lectures only: $300, deadline 22 Sep 2019
  • Hands-on live animal workshop (including Lectures)*: $2700 (limited to 4 registrants per workshop)

  • Fri 13 Dec (am/pm) register by 22 Sep

*Attendance at the Lectures is mandatory for the Hands-on live animal workshop.
