Explore Ballarat
Monash Residential Services (MRS) is proud to offer subsidised day trips for residents to explore a range of destinations across Victoria. These day trips are exclusively available to members of the Monash on-campus residential community.
Ballarat is a city located in the Central Highlands, around 105 kilometers northwest of Melbourne. The city has a rich history that is closely tied to the Victorian gold rush of the 19th century. Ballarat played a significant role in the Australian gold rush of the 1850s, and it quickly grew into a bustling gold mining town.
Sovereign Hill is an outdoor museum and historical recreation of a 19th-century gold mining settlement. It is one of Ballarat's most popular tourist attractions. Visitors to Sovereign Hill can experience life as it was during the gold rush era, with costumed staff, old-style buildings, and interactive exhibits.
