About the course:
Communication is a crucial element of our daily lives, whether sharing information with workplace colleagues and interacting with businesses for goods and services as well as relating to friends and family. We communicate with people and organisations every day, either in writing, verbally or non-verbally.In this course, we explore the importance of Effective Communication. We begin with the fundamentals of Effective Communication before diving into the skills required to communicate in the modern world, where traditional forms of communication are being challenged, with emoticons and video conferencing increasing in popularity. In a modern work environment, effective communication is more important than ever. The number of people we interact with daily has increased and so too has the number of ways in which we can communicate. With so many methods of communication available now; face-to-face, phone, email, virtually or even emoji, it is vital that we are aware of how we convey our thoughts and ideas to provide clarity, strengthen relationships and ultimately perform better in the workplace but also benefit outside of it. In this course, we will explore the fundamentals of Effective Communication and how we can continue to communicate effectively in today's digital world.
Structure:
This course comprises of 5 modules of learning, activities in a supplied wordbook, and Final Assessment to qualify for your micro-credential. Please see below a unit-by-unit breakdown of what you will learn in this course.
Unit 1: Delve into the history and evolution of communication and how it has evolved Learn about the art of communication and how technology and the future of work is shaping it.
Unit 2: We focus on the role of the 'communicator'. This will cover different communication styles, types and methods.
Unit 3: We focus on the 'listener'. This includes active listening, effective questioning and conflict resolution.
Unit 4: Barriers to effective communication. This includes conscious and unconscious bias, communication 'noise' and giving feedback.
Unit 5: You will revisit key signposts in the course thus far and move into using strategies learnt thus far to become an effective communicator. You will also undertake a final summative assessment to gauge knowledge gained as a result of undertaking this course, and all activities will be completed in the supplied workbook. Successful completion of this summative assessment will support you towards gaining the Effective Communication Micro-credential.
