“Social Networks and Communication in the Medieval and Early Modern World”
Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies Seventh Annual Postgraduate Symposium
Keynote Speaker: Dr Kathleen Neal
This symposium aims to explore the different networks and interactions which existed within the medieval and Renaissance period and the forms and goals that communication between individuals or groups could take. Whether continual correspondence or one-sided messages, such transmission occurred between friends, lovers, allies, foes, and neutral parties through a variety of networks. Public or private, written or oral, these networks of exchange existed amongst local communities, between figures or groups within a polity, and across borders.
